More Than 1,000 Attend Earth2Trump Resistance Shows Over Weekend

Next Stops in Denver, Houston, Omaha, Chicago

TUCSON, Ariz.— More than 1,000 people attended four Earth2Trump shows over the weekend in Reno, Tucson, Salt Lake City and Silver City, N.M. The standing-room-only shows are part of a 16-city, cross-country tour building a vast network of resistance to incoming President Trump.

The tour, which began Jan. 2 and includes two routes across the country, is being organized by the Center for Biological Diversity in coordination with local groups, artists and activists.

“Every single show on the tour has been at capacity, with lines streaming out the door,” said Kieran Suckling, the Center's executive director. “People are fired up and ready to resist Trump at every turn. This is a united and growing movement standing up for democracy, civil rights, wildlife and equality.”

The free shows feature national and local speakers, musicians, and an opportunity to join a growing movement of resistance to all forms of oppression and all attacks on the environment. Thousands of people have taken the pledge of resistance and placed their personal pleas and pledges into large globes and posted them on social media using #Earth2Trump.

“It's hard to be a whole human when you don't honor yourself. Loving yourself is an intricate part of saving Mother Earth,” singer Lyla June said during her set in Tucson.

The Salt Lake City event included a strong focus on indigenous rights and included many activists just back from the Standing Rock Reservation. Carl Moore, chair of Peaceful Advocates for Native Dialogue and Organizing Support (PANDOS), told the crowd, “It's not what we're against, it's what we're for.”

The Reno event also had a hopeful message, with Nevada activists buoyed by progressive results in the November election. “Our community opposes hate and bigotry and is willing to stand up and resist in order to protect our democracy, health and environment. We are more energized and united than ever,” said Ellen Moore of Progressive Leadership Alliance of Nevada.
